INEB hosts 5 research groups with activity in several distinct fields of biomedical engineering, namely biomaterials, tissue regeneration, nanomedicine, bioimaging, biomedical signals and geoepidemiology.

The clinical applications of work in progress are in orthopedics and dentistry, neurology, obstetrics, oncology, and cardiology.

INEB hosts b.IMAGE - the Bioimaging Center for Biomaterials and Regenerative Therapies.

B.IMAGE is part of INEB, an Institute with a wide experience and international recognition in the biomaterials and biomedical imaging fields.

The aim of b.IMAGE is to advance in the development, improvement, integration and use of bioimaging solutions through research, technology development and education, in the fields of Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine. We provide high quality in vitro and in vivo imaging equipment for the biological, biomedical and bioengineering community, helping users from the experimental design and data acquisition to analysis. b.IMAGE operates on the basis of core projects and programmes at the bioimaging/biomaterials and/or regeneration interface. The Centre is open to all academic researchers and industrial clients on a fee-for-service basis.

The Bioimaging Centre currently has the following equipment available:

1.   Spectral Confocal Microscope Leica TCS-SP5 AOBS.

2. Confocal Raman Microscope, LabRAM HR800 UV, Horiba Jobin-Yvon.

3. Imaging Flow cytometer ImageStreamX.

4. Atomic force microscope

5. Inverted Fluorescence Microscope/ Coupling Stage

6. In vivo micro-ultrasounds imaging, Vevo 2100 (230 V).

INEB hosts other research and analytical facilities of interest to a wide range of companies (manufacturing, services) in particular in the health and materials areas of application, and to researchers worldwide.
